Recognizing the need for quality medical care in the United States and the economic stress faced by most small practices, the American College of Physicians will create the Center for Practice Innovation. Physicians Foundation funding will support the Center in responding to the quality improvement and practice management needs of small and mid-size physician practices. The Center will develop, assess and disseminate practical quality improvement innovations designed to enhance patient care and promote quality in internal medicine offices with fewer than ten physicians. Small to medium-sized practices across the country will be selected to pilot the tools, strategies and economic modeling. The Center will distribute the results of the pilot projects and use participant feedback and experiences to improve and expand the Center's offerings.
