In 2010, the Physicians Foundation will focus on a variety of issues in pursuit of the Foundation's mission, which is to promote improvements in the physician practice environment to support high quality patient care. The Foundation will address these issues through grantmaking, research, and educational activities.

As the Foundation learns more through its ongoing research and survey work, findings and lessons learned will be shared through our website and in partnership with our grantees and other ogranizations that advocate on behalf of practicing physicians. We invite you to visit the website often.

Grant Program for Health Information Technology - "HIT In Practice: Toolkit Grants"

Since its inception, The Physicians Foundation has supported and promoted the use of Health Information Technology (HIT) as an important tool in the delivery of health care and improvement of health outcomes. The Foundation believes that there is the potential for many benefits when technology is applied to improving the quality of care and the physician and patient experience. The goal of this initiative is to support physicians' adoption of certified electronic health record systems through the development of tools and resources.

Grant Program for Physician Leadership

The Physicians Foundation is committed to helping bring the voice of physicians to national-level conversations and debate on the issues that affect practicing physicians and their patients. The Foundation supports projects that provide physicians with the tools, skills and learning opportunities to engage effectively in conversations around the future of healthcare by becoming leaders in their profession and representing the needs of their patients and other healthcare providers.

Through a new grantmaking program the Foundation will support new approaches and models to provide for the ongoing professional development of physicians as leaders in the healthcare arena. Specifically, the Foundation will fund innovative programs for physician leadership development and skills-building activities, which may include the development, evaluation, and implementation of new programs, curriculum and content, and program resources.
